Aiyuk Requests Trade, Lynch Dismisses Rumors
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has formally requested a trade from the team. General manager John Lynch, however, has dismissed any rumors of a potential trade, stating that Aiyuk is under contract for the upcoming 2024 NFL season at a cost of $14.1 million.
Aiyuk signed a four-year, $12.5 million contract with the 49ers in 2021, which includes a signing bonus of $6.6 million. He is trying to apply public pressure to the organization, but the 49ers appear to be holding the advantage as they have two key years of control over his contract.
Despite his trade request, the 49ers could theoretically lower Aiyuk's 2024 cap hit by about $6 million and keep his 2025 cap hit the same. However, it doesn't appear that the contract standoff between the two parties is likely to be resolved anytime soon.
