Daytime Emmy winner and Bold and Beautiful star Jacqueline MacInnes Wood recently took some time to chat with us about her most powerful scenes yet.
"It was really important to me to show Steffy's journey in a realistic way."
Wood, who has played Steffy Forrester on the CBS soap opera since 2008, said that she was drawn to the role because of its complexity.
She explained, "Steffy is a strong, independent woman, but she's also vulnerable and has a lot of baggage. I love playing her because she's so real and relatable."
"The scenes when Steffy was struggling with postpartum depression were some of the most challenging I've ever done."
In recent years, Steffy has faced a number of challenges, including postpartum depression. Wood said that filming those scenes was emotionally draining, but also incredibly rewarding.
She said, "It was really important to me to show Steffy's journey in a realistic way. I wanted to show that postpartum depression is a serious issue that affects many women, and that it's nothing to be ashamed of."
"I hope that my work has helped to raise awareness of postpartum depression."
Postpartum depression affects up to one in five women, according to the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and can include sadness, anxiety, anger, and difficulty bonding with the baby.
Wood said that she hopes her work on Bold and Beautiful has helped to raise awareness of postpartum depression and encourage women to seek help if they are struggling.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to share Steffy's story and to help others."
