Meet Dan Quayle: The 44th Vice President of the United States
Early Life and Political Career
James Danforth Quayle was born on February 4, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from DePauw University in 1969 and served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1976 to 1980. In 1980, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served until 1989.
Vice Presidency
In 1988, Quayle was selected by George H. W. Bush as his running mate for the presidential election. The Republican ticket won, and Quayle became the 44th vice president of the United States on January 20, 1989. During his time in office, Quayle was known for his conservative views and his vocal support for the military.
Post-Vice Presidency
Quayle left office in 1993 when Bush lost his re-election bid to Bill Clinton. Since then, he has remained active in politics and public life, serving as a commentator and author. He is currently the chairman of the Center for American Values.
