Ukraine fail to score for sixth time in nine group games

WEB Romania have defeated Ukraine 3-0 in their opening match of Group E at Euro 2024.

Romania's second-ever European Championship win

The victory is only Romania's second-ever at a European Championship, and their first since 2008. Ukraine, meanwhile, have now failed to score in six of their nine group stage games at the tournament.

The match was played in front of a crowd of 14,000 at the National Arena in Bucharest. Romania took the lead in the 20th minute when Nicolae Stanciu scored a penalty. Florin Andone doubled the lead in the 35th minute, and Ianis Hagi added a third in the 57th minute.

Ukraine had plenty of chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Their best chance came in the 75th minute when Roman Yaremchuk hit the post.

The victory gives Romania a great start to their Euro 2024 campaign. They will now face Austria in their next match on June 17, while Ukraine will take on North Macedonia.
